River Senior Sessions
How to Prepare for the River Session
The session at the river is a lot of fun! You will get some time to shoot all by yourself, and if you want to wait around, we can do a group photo if you'd like. It is up to you.
Let me share some information to make your session the best it can be.
-
These are romantic photos, so remember that when you choose your outfit. Think soft, dreamy, and sweet. My niece wore a $14 lace dress from a thrift store, and it was beautiful.
-
You also might pick a dress that will look good wet, or we can plan to shoot your session in stages - all dry, half way in the water, and then finally all in the water. Once a dark-colored, cotton dress is wet, you will see all the splashes and all the places were the water has bled the longer you stand in the water.
-
Pick a color that compliments your skin tone. I've seen magenta, purple, green, cream, and peach dresses, and they are beautiful against the rocks and greenery. I honestly haven't seen a bad color yet, so pick something you like but remember your natural surrounds. I'd avoid anything neon, please.
-
Moms, if you know you want something on the wall, pick a dress color that coordinates with your decor.
-
Solids and very small prints work best.
-
Strapless dresses can make you look naked in some poses in the water.
-
It's your choice to go completely under the water or not.
-
Undergarments - please wear something nude especially if your dress will become sheer when wet.
-
Water shoes are a great investment if you can find them. The large rocks under the water are super slick, so we are slow and careful as we move! You do not want to do this barefoot.
-
Bathroom - This is an old state park, so there is a bathroom in the parking lot. It is *extremely rustic.
-
Dad is welcome to come to this session, but he may want to just hang out on the side. I have never had any problems, but we are in a remote area, and your cell phone coverage goes to zero down at the river; having a Dad with us is a good thing.
Things to bring:
-
A towel to dry off and for Mom to sit on during your turn
-
A dry change of clothes for the drive home
-
Snacks and something to drink because it will be hot, and there are no stores nearby to grab a drink.
Required:
Please bring a parent or come with an adult who will be responsible for you during your shoot and your transportation.
You must be able to swim.
